Oil Leaks. Oil leaks are the most common symptom of a defective lawnmower crankcase breather. Over time, filters may become clogged with dust and other debris, which restricts airflow and allows pressure to build. This leads to blown seals and gaskets, causing oil leaks. After cleaning the crankcase breather, the blown seal or gasket will have ...
Re: Lower Crankshaft seal bad?? On a 2-stroke the crancase is a part of the air/fuel mix flow's way to the combustion chamber. If not tight the cylinder will not fill/exhaust properly which will lead to reduced perfomance and other running related issues.
Strange, however, that no oil or fuel is visible as the crancase pressure would force a little amount out if the seal is not tight?
Even if the seal were 99.5 percent perfect -- which it isn't -- the crankcase might still pressurize to about 1 psi. This pressure encourages oil leaks through the gaskets and contributes to air pollution by sending a constant stream of untreated oil vapor steaming out of the engine's breather cap.
Hippy made a good suggestion.Bad crank seals on a chainsaw dont leak anything out to amount to anything, its the air that gets sucked in that keeps the saw from running right, although bad crank seals shouldnt keep the saw from starting. If your saw was running lean and wouldnt idle and kept dying out,its very possible the seals are bad.One thing to try is to spray some ether around the head ...

Let's learn about some crankshaft position sensor failure symptoms so that you can take action when there's a problem. 1. Check Engine Light Is On. Check engine light comes on if the sensor is overheated. (photo source: Auto Net TV) It can come on for various reasons and sensor problem is one of crankshaft position sensor symptoms.
I had a leaky right crank seal on my 03 YZ250 a few years ago. There was an unbelievable amount of spooge running all the way down the silencer and splattered all over the swingarm. Doesn't sound like what you're seeing. The two o-rings that seal the expansion chamber to the cylinder wear out really quickly and are cheap to replace.
Troubleshooting An Air Leak. A crankcase air leak is a problem many pro saw engines have at some point in their life. Symptoms include: over reving, overheating, stalling on acceleration, failure to idle, and worst of all, an engine seizure if the problem is neglected.
The BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak would be able to treat the front crankshaft seal leak you are experiencing. You will be using one oz. of the product per quart of oil in the system, and should expect to start seeing results after approximately 100-200 miles of driving. Thank you!
Blown crank seals are usually a symptom of another problem. One example is a failing PTO bearing causing the seal to elongate and allow air to enter the crankcase leaning the fuel air mixture on that side eventually detonating the piston. A failed drive belt which has wrapped around the crank will also damage the seal and leave visible signs on ...
Symptoms of a Crank Seal Leak. The most common symptom of a faulty crankshaft seal will be an oil leak. Depending on how bad the seal is, the leak could be small, causing oil to leak underneath the engine, or if it is a larger leak, there may be a puddle of oil in front of your engine. There are other reasons that you may have an oil leak, but ...
Where exactly are the crank seals located (I think I'm thinking of the wrong part) as I havent referenced the manual yet due to lack of time to research. Thanks . Dr Honda Moderator. Staff member. The crankcase vent filter works the same way as any other filter. When the crankcase ventilation filter needs servicing, it will usually display a few symptoms that can alert the driver that attention is required. 1. Oil leaks. Oil leaks are one of the …
If the pressure builds too high, it can cause gaskets and seals to blow causing oil leaks. 2. High idle. Another symptom of a potential problem with the crankcase vent filter is an excessively ...

Mar 24, 2015. #2. The PTO side has a step in the crank. I use a small strip of a plastic bottle to make ramp. Oil the seal, slip it onto the plastic strip, slip this onto the crank, and slowly slide it down and over the crank step. Once you have the seal past the ramp, gently slip the plastic strip out and finish seating the seal. mortalitool ...
Bad or failing crankshaft seals show the following symptoms: A High Mileage of About 100,000 Miles and Above. This in itself is not an issue but an indicator that the crankshaft seal is approaching the end of its lifespan. Automobile manufacturers have a recommended service interval for most components of a vehicle. The service lifespan of a ...
If the crank seal on the primary side fails you will get transmission oil coming into the bottom of the crank and get a smokey exhaust and a fairly distinct smell of burning tranny fluid. A leaky seal on the other side will lean out the air fuel mixture causing pinging and loss of power. Neither will give the symptoms you describe unless oil is ...
What are the symptoms of a bad crankshaft seal? Oil leaks Oil leaks are the most common symptom of a problem with the crankshaft seal. If the crankshaft seal dries out, cracks, or breaks, it can cause an oil leak. Small leaks can cause oil to accumulate on the undersides of the engine, while larger ones may produce a drip of oil from the front ...
0. Nov 14, 2004. #2. If the crank seal is bad on the transmission side ( which I think is what you are asking ) transmission oil will be sucked into the crankcase and burned. This should be obvious as the bike will be producing loads of smoke even when properly warmed up, and the oil level in the transmission will noticably reduce.
Location. South America. Jun 22, 2003. #3. While sitting unused (not running) the oil can seep into the crank (past the right crank seal) which causes a lot of smoke to exit the tailpipe for the first few minutes after starting it. While its running you'll be getting more oil to the engine parts but it won't change the jetting (rich/lean).
The only thing in there is two inner crank seals, two bearings for the rotary shaft, the rotary shaft and gear and a rotary shaft oil seal. You could try running some 90/140 gear oil and see if that slows down the leak but you would have to disconnect if from the oil tank and would be a mess trying to burn that out of the crankcase if the leak ...
If the crank seal is bad, it will be transferring oil from the transmission side to the crank case. So one way to check is measure the trans fluid when you change it. If it's less than what you put in, and you have no other leaks, it's likely the seal. The bike will also smoke alot more because of the excess oil in the crankcase.

If the fuel pump diaphram goes it usually causes fuel to fill the crank through the impulse line. I believe on the 400 that the impulse runs off of the pto side.
Servicing the crankshaft seal according to the recommended service interval can prevent the seal from failing in the first place, which can cause other problems. Oil leaks. Oil leaks are the most common symptom of a problem with the crankshaft seal. If the crankshaft seal dries out, cracks, or breaks, it can cause an oil leak.
As for crank seals, they have to hold both vacuum and compression. The seals on 2 strokes are designed to work both ways. After all, they do call crankcase compression the "primary compression" because it comes first. The crankcase on a 2 stroke is in reality a blower on a drag car.
Symptoms of a Stuck Closed PCV Valve or System. A bad PCV valve or related component can produce a number of symptoms. For example, if the valve clogs, or gets stuck in the closed position, you'll notice one of these symptoms. Increase in internal engine pressure. Failure of one or more oil seals or gaskets.
