Sluice Boxes Riffle-less Systems Part 6 Posted on February 1, 2016 by The Fossicker Solving complex systems is difficult, but sometimes one gets lucky and finds the solution through throwing a dart at a problem and finding that it stuck to the target.

I made this 31 inch sluice box out of scrap aluminum, a few bolts and nuts, and black iron I cut, bent, welded and painted to create the riffles. Miners Moss (3M Nomad Carpet) is set under the riffle system (Miners Moss has been recently changed to Keene's new Sluice Box Carpet) and behind the riffles is ribbed vynal matting I cut to size and glued to the box.

After early tests with the sluice, I found I needed to weld on another flat piece at the top end of the riffle assembly (4th photo) to hold down the mesh and ribbed matting that would go under the riffles. More about those later. The last photo below shows how the riffle tray is held in the sluice.
